OPEIU Bargaining Team at Group Health
Local 8 members, and our Tacoma sister Local 23, are working collaboratively with management to win a new contract to secure the economic future for over 1,500 members at GHC. This is the first time at the bargaining table for our newest GHC members from Eastern Washington. The Team plans to bring members a contract to vote on by early April!

March Honoring MLK Jr.
MLK Jr.'s birthday is always a day of action at Local 8. This year's March and Rally ending at the Federal Building had a small but energized group...despite the threat of heavy snow. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968 at age 39 in Memphis. He was there to support striking sanitation workers.

MayWorks 2012

This is the 100th anniversary of the Lawrence, Massachusetts textile workers strike, popularized by the slogan “Bread and Roses”. The workers, mostly immigrant women, organized and fought not only for higher wages, but also for dignity, respect, and better working conditions. The Washington State Labor Council is launching the first MayWorks celebration in Washington State and we have the inspiration of the “Bread and Roses” strike to remind us we are more than the jobs we do.
